Thriving Sensitive in the Digital Age

About Purposely Digital

Technology can be helpful, but it has also made the world more overwhelming.

Louder. Faster.

We carry smartphones that buzz with notifications.

We have instant access to news all over the world.

We are always connected by social media and messaging.

And so much more.

For us sensitive humans, the world has always been a bit… much.

While all humans possess sensitivity to their environment - including emotions, sound, light, smell - some humans live life with the dial turned up.

For these humans, digital technology adds yet another layer of noise to the mix.

Finding Your Way with Life Coaching

Purposely Digital, led by Sarah E. Carter PhD, supports sensitive humans to thrive in a digital age that is inherently overwhelming and overstimulating.

Sarah's coaching approach, while not limited to topics explicitly concerning technology, recognizes the added complication technology has on human lives. It’s coaching that empowers individuals to live a life according to their values in the 21st century.

Meet your coach: Sarah

Purposely Digital is led by Sarah E. Carter PhD, an AI ethicist turned life coach.

Hello! Sarah here.

My journey into life coaching began with slowing down. In 2024, I suffered burnout and life came to a halt. Going from fast to slow allowed me to rediscover and deeply respect being a sensitive human.

I've always been sensitive - to emotions, to noise, to touch, any stimulation. It comes with challenges, but also with gifts - performing music emotionally, knowing how to respond to a friend in need, deep empathy, and a profound connection to nature.

And yet, "being sensitive" is not viewed as a positive in a world that is less interested in slowing down and going deep than in speed and increasing productivity.

Recent technological advances push the gas pedal even harder. Smartphones connect us, but also inundate us with notifications. Social media uses emotionally-charged content to keep us scrolling, to the detriment of our psyches. AI automates so we can get from A to B at lightning speed. We are doing, texting, scrolling, prompting, all the time.

Faster, and faster, and faster, and faster.

But at what cost?

During burnout, I took time away from distractions and began a journey towards living my life, and using the technology it comes with, differently. Purposely. Sensitively. Mindfully.

Trained in AI ethicist, I understand the impacts technology can have on humans. I worked to design technology that could empower humans to live a life in accordance with their values. However, it has became clear to me that there is only so much we can do on the design end. It starts with us, saying no, saying yes, saying maybe to how we want to use and engage.

I wanted to empower individuals to seize (or leave be) technology as it serves them.

That's where coaching comes in.

As your coach, I support you to explore strategies to connect with yourself in a fast-paced, technology-infused world so that you can engage in a manner that serves your values, your goals, and your dreams.

I look forward to walking this journey with you.

My coaching approach has been described as warm and empathetic by my peers.
